Rainwater starts out very pure, but as you collect it, airborne particles, bacteria, and debris from your roof, gutters, and water tank contaminate it. Leaf matter, rust, dirt, and animal droppings introduce harmful bacteria, sediment, unpleasant tastes, odors, and long-term risks like giardia.
Surface and bore water contaminate even more quickly, often requiring essential bacteria treatment to keep your water safe.
Install a Puretec filtration system designed specifically to eliminate bacteria and provide clean, safe water for your home.
Water treatment facilities add chlorine to mains water to keep it safe, but chlorine often leaves an unpleasant taste and smell. Many people find it unappetising to drink, and it can cause dry, itchy skin—especially for those with eczema, dermatitis, or sensitive skin. Chlorine also shortens the lifespan of appliances and damages seals on tapware and toilets.
Water filters designed to reduce chlorine and other chemicals improve your water’s taste and quality significantly. Whole house filtration systems deliver clean, filtered water to every tap—including your shower and garden—helping you maintain healthier skin, appliances, and plants.
PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals”, refer to a group of around 14,000 manmade substances, including PFOA and PFOS. These chemicals are commonly found in non-stick cookware, water-resistant fabrics, and firefighting foams. Over time, they have been bioaccumulating in the environment.
While research on their effects is still developing, the World Health Organisation recently classified PFAS as carcinogenic to humans, with no known safe level of exposure.
Puretec offers effective filtration solutions to help reduce PFAS exposure in your home. Carbon filters have been shown to significantly reduce PFAS levels, while a reverse osmosis (RO) membrane provides even greater protection.
Regular filter replacement is essential to maintain performance and reduce the risk of exposure. Replacing carbon cartridges on schedule ensures your system continues to operate effectively.
Most people know and trust traditional under-sink water filters for clean, great-tasting drinking water. But if you’re only filtering one tap, you’re missing out on the full benefits of a whole house water filtration system.
A whole house system filters water at the point it enters your home, delivering clean, filtered water to every tap—not just your kitchen. It actively reduces sediment and chemicals like chlorine, improving water quality across your entire home.
By removing corrosive chlorine and preventing sediment buildup, whole house systems protect your hot water systems, washing machines, dishwashers, pipes, and tapware. This protection helps extend the life of your appliances and can save you thousands in replacement costs.
Filtered shower water protects your hair and skin from harsh chlorine—one of the most common causes of dryness, irritation, and scalp issues. With filtered water at every tap, you support healthier skin, hair, and an all-around better shower experience.
At Mt Barker Irrigation Pump Depot, we often get asked, “Why should I change my filters regularly?” It’s a great question! Using a filtration system for your mains or rainwater provides peace of mind, but if you don’t change your filters and lamps (on ultraviolet systems) regularly, they may stop working effectively.
Filters use pores or media to trap bacteria and contaminants like sediment, rust, and odors. As the filter fills up, water struggles to pass through, and what does pass may not be filtered properly.
If you use an ultraviolet system, replace the lamp every 12 months to ensure it kills 99.9% of bacteria. Even if the lamp still looks on, it may lose strength over time and won’t work effectively.
Puretec rigorously tests each product to assign the correct filter capacity for every cartridge. However, filter life depends on your local water conditions. For example, areas with high sediment require more frequent filter changes.
You can reuse pleated sediment cartridges by removing and washing them with clean water. Use the Puretec Filter Cartridge Cleaning Gun, which connects to a garden hose and uses bristles to loosen sediment. It also holds TankSafe™ for extra cleaning power. After cleaning, reinstall the cartridge. You can reuse pleated cartridges 3–4 times before fully replacing them or when they show wear. Over time, the pleats roughen and pores open, letting larger particles through.
Always read the installation guide before installing any filter cartridge. Specialty cartridges, like nitrate removal filters, need preconditioning before use and regeneration after reaching capacity.
We recommend changing most Puretec cartridges every 6 to 12 months, or when you notice taste or odor returning.
